Facebook’s Update to Timeline for Business Pages

July 23, 2014/0 Comments/in Branding, Opinion/by Matt Everley

This is an update to my original article below from 2012. Most of the content is still very relative, however since Facebook changes things up (almost monthly it seems!) I felt it best to quickly provide a link to a recent article from Social Media Examiner that covers the latest 2014 update in more detail. Please click the following link for more information…

The BEST Way to Create Marketing Content for Your Blog

April 1, 2014/0 Comments/in Opinion, SEO/by Matt Everley

What is the best way to generate great articles for your content marketing efforts?

In my humble opinion, it’s to answer an e-mail question! I get questions and consultation requests all day long, every day in my inbox. Whether short or long, I reply with a response that speaks to my expertise in my industry—something you probably do all the time as well! Simply focus on your target market’s pain points and a typical question he/she would ask (or better yet, what this person would perform an internet search for) and off you go.

What was this morning’s inbox question I answered? Why, it was “What do you think is the best way to create content for my blog?” Go figure!

So the next time you are fumbling around looking for something to write, just search your inbox. Chances are, you just wrote a little blog article a few days ago, filled with great content, and you didn’t even know it!

User Storyboards for Website Design

December 16, 2013/1 Comment/in Opinion, Web Design/by Matt Everley

In the web/app/software development world, a traditional “user story” is composed of several statements in which deliverables portray “As a <type of user>, I want <some goal> so that <some reason>.” In other words, what a user wishes to accomplish and why. Likewise, for design and layout purposes, I like to develop what I call a “user storyboard”, which shows several different user personas and their “journey” through a web site.

Reasons NOT to Hold a Logo Design Contest

August 12, 2013/0 Comments/in Branding, Opinion/by Matt Everley

I recently created a proposal for the logo design/identity development for a potential client, along with web design. When they got back with me, they were excited to get started on the web site, but told me they would not be needing my logo design services because they were going to hold an internal “design” contest for their logo. Very disheartening to say the least—not as much for the loss of opportunity for me, but more for the side-stepping of a core asset to the image of the business.

A logo is the very first impression people get of a company. It needs to be original, convey quality and look professional! It’s the starting point of the entire corporate image, and it should reflect the necessary time, thought and skill that goes into designing it. So I wrote them an email with a few questions…

Some questions to take into this logo contest:

  1. How much research will be conducted into creating each logo?
  2. Will any brainstorming or sketching be carried out?
  3. How much time will be spent on creating the logos?
  4. Will it be worth the time and effort for a bad outcome?

Heard on New Stuff: SOPA, iBooks and Pinterest

February 3, 2012/0 Comments/in Opinion/by Matt Everley

I was recently invited to be a guest co-host on “New Stuff”—an internet audio show (podcast) on themesh.tv. It was recorded last Friday and officially released yesterday for download and your listening pleasure.

To listen to the show, go to:

New Stuff 4: The SOPA, iTunes and Pinterest Episode

It was a great discussion led by Lee Yount about the recent uproar regarding the controversial SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act), Apple’s release of iBooks textbooks (along with iTunes U, iBooks Author, iPads, etc.), new gadgets unveiled at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas and one of the latest social media platforms to take the internet by storm—Pinterest.

There was also some good stuff on iPads vs. Kindles and other tablets, mentions of twitter accounts to follow, favorite iPhone apps and more. Read more
