Craft Beer Logo Design Exhibit at Hickory Museum of Art

Hickory, North Carolina graphic designer Matt Everley challenged himself to create 52 brewery/beer logos in one year, each using a different typeface. The font itself became the driving factor for each logo design. His small, one-off type treatments for Granite Falls Brewery served as inspiration for his own line of brewery-style logo designs. This is the first time the entire collection of 52 logos will be on exhibition.

The Opening Reception for Beer-Type Logos Design Exhibit was a BIG success!

Thank you to everyone who attended the Opening Reception. We had a ton of fun enjoying complimentary pours of Ossem IPA from Granite Falls Brewing, toasting at the bottle share and hanging out with everyone. Be sure to stay tuned for the winning logo that will be brewed this fall, and go by the art museum and vote on your favorite if you haven’t already!

Beer-Type Logos: Brewery-style logo designs created from font names

1 year. 52 logos. Holy crap.

Beer-Type Logos is a personal graphic design project where I have challenged myself to create 52 logos—1 logo per week for the entire year of 2015—that use a different font to create a unique brewery or beer logo. The idea for beertypelogos.com was born from the many taphandle graphics I have done over the past year for Granite Falls Brewing Company in Granite Falls, North Carolina. I have been completing small, one-off type treatments for GFB that have inspired me to create my own line of brewery-style logos and now have an active blog where I showcase these logos and the beer and fonts that inspired them.

Drafting design inspiration from two things I love

I have several goals and objectives in this endeavor, and you can read more about this project here. But for the most part, I’m doing it for the love of beer and type. I’m fascinated with craft beer and tasting the many offerings of North Carolina and beyond. And likewise I’m totally consumed with logo design and the fonts used to create them.

Hickory Graphic Designer Wins National Award for Logo Design

HICKORY, NC Matt Everley, of Hickory-based graphic design studio m.e.designlab, was recently selected as a winner for a 2014 American Graphic Design Award by a nationwide panel of judges. The award recognizes excellence in communication and graphic design.

The competition was presented by Graphic Design USA Magazine. A highly selective 15% of the 8,500+ entries were honored this year. Everley’s winning entry was the logo design and development for Viking Aerial, a Hickory, NC-based creative studio offering UAV drone photography and video services for real estate and property promotion. The selected piece and design credits will be featured in GDUSA’s December issue, “2014 Design Annual” and can be viewed online at www.gdusa.com.

Everley has won numerous awards for logos, web sites, direct mail and corporate identity systems including several previous American Graphic Design Awards over the last 12 years. Above are some recent designs for taphandle graphics. All the GFB taphandles carry the same molded shape—granite handle, topped with the traditional Granite Falls Brewing logo. However each handle has an area for individual beer branding.

Entrepreneur Exchange: Building Your Brand

It was a great discussion hosted by Jeff Neuville, Director of the Small Business Center at Catawba Valley Community College and Gary Muller, Business Programs Department Head of CVCC. I was asked to discuss some of the various facets of how to go about building your brand. From reasons to choose a professional to develop your logo and brand’s identity, to using a consistent “voice” when branding social media, and even the psychology of color and how your brand can own it in your market.

I was also fortunate to be able to give a plug to my new aerial drone photography studio, Viking Aerial. Viking uses unmanned aircraft vehicle (UAV) technology to provide aerial photography and videos for Advertising, Real Estate, Commercial Property, Resort Promotion, Action Sports and more. That’s right, I am once again an entrepreneur! And what better to promote my own startup brand than on brand-building podcast?
